Back to Work!

August was so very hot, I got to read several books.
I read several of the SkippyJon Jones (SJJ) series written
by Judy Schachner! A furball of trouble. A siamese that
thinks he's a Mexican chihuahua, yep a cat that thinks
he is a dog. This alter ego, Skippito, is a cross between Zorro and a tasmanian devil, with a few musical numbers thrown in. The whole series is slap your knees, hold your side, funny. SJJ and the Great Bean Caper, SJJ and the Big Bones, and the first book, self-titled lead readers through an adventure and always end up safe at home.
Be happy, sing a song, let your imagination run wild,  learn a little Spanish, read a book.

Ricky Ricotta's Mighty (Giant) Robot vs. The Voodoo Vultures from Venus   by Dav Pilkey  pictures by Martin Ontiveros

Your television has a secret. It can hypnotize you and the vultures use it to take over a town. Luckily Ricky and his Mighty Robot are in trouble and grounded from watching t.v. In this quick paced read they have to save their town from the bad guys. Can they? Will they?

Adopt-a-School articles I wrote and submitted

                                                         Central Primary Students
                                                         Enjoy Partnership Activities

“That was sooo cool”… “Did you see me up there, I was great!” …“The funniest part was when he put the rope up on the refrigerator and then pulled it and fell down.” These are just a few of the student comments following the presentation provided by Stillman College drama students. On Tuesday, October 27th the Stillman students presented an interactive presentation of “If You Give a Mouse a Cookie” to the Central Primary students. The students enjoyed the musical play and particularly enjoyed the opportunity to participate with their Adopt-A-School partners, from Stillman College.

Pumpkin Appreciation

Central Primary art teacher, Mrs. Jackie Mason, provided decorated pumpkins for area Compass Bank offices. The pumpkins are a token of appreciation for all that Compass Bank provides for their Adopt-A-School partner, Central Primary. The pumpkins are not your typical “jack-o-lanterns” and each depicts a unique personality and were proudly displayed at several Compass Bank locations.

****As well as writing articles I also made an appearance on Kip Tyner's 'Good Day Tuscaloosa' to discuss our adopt-a-school partnerships. *****

'The Maze Runner' by James Dashner
Waking up in a box with no family memories, abandoned with a group of boys who try to fiqure out how to return to the real world by solving a maze. wierd but good read of alternate world.

Fun ways to do book reports:

1. Video tape yourself and friends acting out the story in 3 to 5 scenes and create a movie.

2. Create a collage that focuses on the books theme (or plot...).

3. Draw a comic version of the story or use http://www.makebeliefscomix.com/ as a template.

4. Animoto.

Kat Kong by Dav Pilkey

A great parody of King Kong using Pilkey's own pets as the stars. Scientific curiosity leads to chaos when mice explorers capture a monster cat who then ends up taking them for a ride of terror. The illustrations use photographs, collage and paint and create a fantastic visual to Pilkey's silly storyline. Who wins this epic battle between cat and mouse?

Read it, laugh a lot, pass the book along. AT+
